Charitable Remainder Trusts

Provide income to the individual or a beneficiary during their lifetime and then upon death (or some other specified period), the remaining assets are distributed to one or more charities of your choice.

  • Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust (CRAT): This type of trust pays a fixed annuity amount to the beneficiary each year.

  • Charitable Remainder Unitrust (CRUT): This type of trust pays the beneficiary a fixed percentage of the trust assets each year.

Charitable Lead Trusts

Provide income to one or more charities for a period of time, and then the remaining assets are distributed back to the individual or a beneficiary they’ve chosen.

  • Charitable Lead Annuity Trust (CLAT): This type of trust pays a fixed annuity amount to the charity each year.

  • Charitable Lead Unitrust (CLUT): This type of trust pays the charity a fixed percentage of the trust assets each year.

Brent Maltby is Senior Vice President and Trust Officer at the Scottsdale branch of Arden Trust Company with more than 24 years of experience in Trust Administration. His expertise includes managing Irrevocable Trusts, Charitable Trusts, Inherited IRA Trusts accounts, and Estates. Brent has a strong partnership with his team to provide top-notch client experience to their customers. Brent is based in Phoenix, Arizona, where he resides with his family. In his leisure time, he enjoys traveling, working out at the gym, and spending time outdoors.

Kristin Reuter of Arden Trust

Kristin joined the Arden Trust Special Needs Trust Administration team as a Trust Administrator in 2022 and is currently a member of the Arden Trust Philanthropy team. In this role, she supports her team by providing responsive and attentive service to clients. Before joining Arden Trust Company, Kristin was a first-grade teacher and later provided administrative support for her husband’s landscape and pool business. A native of Arizona, Kristin holds a bachelor’s degree in Early Elementary Education from Arizona StateUniversity. She is a proud wife and mother, with three children, a granddaughter, and two fur babies. Outside of work, Kristin is an avid sports fan who enjoys watching football and hockey, as well as scrapbooking and spending time with family and friends.

Sofia Mitzel of Arden Trust

Sofia joined the Arden Philanthropic Trust team in the summer of 2023 as a Trust Administrator, where she plays a key part in supporting her team by providing the best client service and collaborating with financial advisors, tax liaisons, and specialized internal operations. Prior to joining Arden, Sofia worked in Trust Administration in South Dakota, with experience in a variety of trusts for high net worth individuals in Latin America as well as local families in the South Dakota and Minnesota region. Though Sofia was born in Mexico, she grew up in South Dakota, where she graduated from South DakotaState University with degrees in Psychology and Spanish. Since moving to Arizona in 2023, Sofia has enjoyed spending time outdoors, such as running, hiking, relaxing by the pool, or eating ice cream on a hot summer day. She has recently become involved with a local animal rescue and is looking forward to helping animals in need.
